from Woody's Office-Watch:
1. OFFICE 2003 SERVICE PACK 2 - WAIT A WHILE
The second service pack for Office 2003 slipped out without fanfare on the Microsoft website a short time ago and already we're getting reports of problems.
So for the moment our advice is to be cautious and NOT get the Service Pack 2 (SP2). There's already KB articles outlining some problems, so waiting a few days or a week is unlikely to make any real difference for you.
If you read the Microsoft web site you'd think that SP2 has nothing new in the way of features. It is a roll up of patches past patches Including Service Pack 1. A Tablet PC ink-recognition update is also included.
But buried in SP2, unremarked and unheralded is a small anti-phishing tool - see below.
Naturally we'll have a complete and in-depth look at the Office 2003 Service Pack and other updates in our next issue.
At first look this is a typical Office Service Pack - poorly documented with traps for the unwary. Hopefully not as bas as some past efforts but the same sort of thing we've been talking about in Office Watch for the last ten years. "The more things change ... "
